Ridley and Hall offer many Family and Matrimonial services on a fixed fee basis. We offer specific fixed fees for Divorce.
For other family and matrimonial cases we will discuss and agree a fixed fee with you based on the specific circumstances of your case. We will provide you with important information such as; at what stage payment is expected and a breakdown of what is included and what is not included. Any work conducted that is not part of the fixed fee package will be charged at our Solicitors hourly rates which we will make available to you when you instruct us.
Although fixed fees are often a good way to pay, they are not suitable in every case and we will assess whether your individual case is suitable for a fixed fee. This is because some family and matrimonial cases can be more complex than others, or you need more assistance than can be offered under a fixed fee service.
In addition to the fixed fees, we also offer packages where you can buy our time at a discount. This means that the solicitor can do work for you at a reduced hourly rate.
Our Solicitors charge their time at an hourly rate which is determined by their experience and qualification. They will give you an estimate of costs at the beginning of your case and explain how those costs are broken down and charged. They will also keep you updated on costs throughout your case and notify immediately should your case change, impacting on the estimate originally given. We also offer packages where you can buy our time at a discount. This means that the solicitor can do work for you at a reduced hourly rate.
Significant changes to civil legal aid in England and Wales came into effect on 1 April 2013, as part of a plan to reform the system.
The changes mean some types of cases are no longer eligible for public funding. For family law, this means that legal aid is only available in very exceptional circumstances. We will complete a Legal Aid Assessment for you based on the merits of your case and on your financial circumstances. If you are eligible for Legal Aid we will represent you under the Legal Aid Scheme. This might mean that you do not have to pay for our services or you might be required to make a contribution to the cost. If you recover or preserve any assets in the course of your case then the Legal Aid Agency are entitled to claim their costs back from your ‘winnings’ at the end of the case.
