Local Authorities
Children are vulnerable and as a society we have a responsibility to protect them. Sometimes parents let them down and that is when Local Authorities' Social Services should step in.
Sometimes they get it wrong; children are taken into care when they should not be. Or, more often, they are not taken into care when they should be. If they are taken into care, it may be that their foster carers neglect or abuse them too. Some children are adopted, and are more damaged than their new parents are told; not a good situation for the children or those adopting.
We are involved in a tragic case where a disabled child in local authority respite care died, allegedly as a result of the carer's negligence. In any of these situations the children and in some cases, their parents, may have a claim against the Local Authority. It's not always about getting compensation, although that is often the route to getting the answers that they seek.
The Personal Injury team works closely with the Public Law team to make sure that all avenues are investigated. Legal Funding may be available for these cases.
